NEW YORK STATE -- Syracuse's mayor is taking on a new job. She will soon be the co-chair of the state's Democratic Party.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has asked Miner and downstate Assemblyman Keith Wright to share the job running the party as the 2012 election year unfolds.

Miner says the work should not interfere with her job as leader of the city. It's a job she says she's ready to do.

"What I have been doing already is going out and talking about the importance of having democrats and democratic values. And I've been having a long series of discussions with our state leadership about that and they've asked me, I suppose, to put my money where my mouth is and step up to the plate. And I'm thrilled with the opportunity. I’m glad I can do it," Miner said.

Miner and Assemblyman Wright will succeed democratic chair Jay Jacobs who recently announced he was stepping down from the post.
