CANTON, N.Y. -- The two year construction project on Route 11 in Canton has begun.

The Department of Transportation says underground utility work began Tuesday at the intersection of Route 11 and Riverside Drive. As a result, one lane on Route 11, as well as Riverside Drive's left turning lane, will be closed. The DOT says to expect minor delays.

The state’s improvement project for Route 11 will cover about a mile of road. It will update roads, curbs, sidewalks and other infrastructure.

The DOT says this first part of the project will last about two weeks.
