NEW YORK -- State Police have extra patrols on the streets looking for speeders and aggressive drivers. Today is the first day of "Operation Spring Brake.” It's part of an annual five day campaign.
The extra safety enforcement kicks off today and runs through Friday.
"We are trying to get people to reduce their speed. Especially throughout the work zone where you have workers, you have obstructions. A lot of people don't realize the lanes are narrower and at a higher speed you are less likely to control your car and more likely to be involved in an accident," said Paul Swasey, NYSP Troop T.
During last year's Operation Spring Brake, more than 2,000 tickets were issued to speeders.
State Police are also reminding drivers to be on the lookout for deer, especially over the next two months.
