UNITED STATES -- The average price for a gallon of gas is up more than 18 cents throughout the last two weeks. That's according to the latest Lundberg Survey.
The survey found the national average is up to $3.69 a gallon. Analysts said rising crude oil prices is the main factor driving the increase. But threatened fuel shortages and economic uncertainty worldwide are also major factors.
New York State remains well above the national average. AAA reports New Yorkers are filling up for $3.94 a gallon.
The Southern Tier is right on track with those numbers. Binghamton is averaging about $3.94 a gallon, with numbers in Elmira slightly lower at $3.87 a gallon.
In Syracuse, the average price at the pump rose 5.2 cents in the past week to $3.88 a gallon. That’s 40 cents more than this time last year.
