Gas prices throughout the country are expected to climb significantly this weekend, meaning drivers will be feeling the pinch next time they head to the pump. Our Candace Hopkins has more on what we should expect this weekend.
ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. – According to SyracuseGasPrices.com, the current average in the Central New York area is $3.82 per gallon. That's up three cents from last week, 19 cents from last month, and 50 cents from last year. Experts said the prices we are seeing now are the highest we have ever seen at the pump during this time of year.
Drivers said the increases will definitely change their travel habits.
"In the summer I don't mind because I can just ride my bike, but this time of year there's not much you can do about it, you just have to cut your expenses elsewhere you know," said Diane Glauber, a local driver.
"Just helpless, I'm trying to get another job just to keep up with the gas prices. It's horrible," said David Forbes, another local driver.
Experts said the increase is due to a combination of many factors, including the growing tensions over Iran's nuclear program.
