BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A Binghamton family officially owns its home again.

The Kurylo family met with county officials Monday to finalize the paperwork necessary to buy back their home. It was the final step in a very public battle over the property at 9 Arthur Street in Binghamton.

The home was foreclosed on last year after the family fell behind on taxes. In January, a family member came forward with the money, but was told he wouldn't be allowed to buy back the home because too much time had passed. But after passing new legislation allowing owners to re-purchase their foreclosed homes, the Broome County Legislature voted to sell back the property.

The family purchased the home back for about $16,615.

"We're happy to have it back. We're happy that other people from now on will be able to redeem their property up until 30 days the action of their homes. We are happy about all of that," said homeowner Volodymyr Kurylo.

The Kurylo's had family photographs and heirlooms with them when buying back the home.
