BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- The treasurer for the Vestal Recreation Youth Soccer Association has been arrested on embezzlement charges.

Sandra Scharnikow, 47, has been accused of stealing $17,000 from the organization between June and December of last year. According to Vestal Police, she admitted to withdrawing the money from the bank, apparently for personal use.

Scharnikow was arraigned on a charge of third degree grand larceny and pleaded not guilty.
