TIOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Owego community is working together to help the family of fallen firefighter Captain Matthew Porcari.

People gathered at the Parkview Restaurant off Front Street to donate their time and money and100 percent of the proceeds from the benefit and silent auction will go to the Porcari family as they continue to rebuild their home following the 2011 flood.

Organizers say they’re glad to be part of a community that comes together to help each other out.

"We always seem to bond together and become stronger. Then we've gotta build on it. We've gotta remember the Porcari family. Not just today or tomorrow, but for the years to come and the sacrifices they've made," said Lt. Daniel Gavin of the Owego Fire Department.

Another benefit will be held on February 13th at Top of the Hill Cafe in Apalachin.
