An ice jam on the Sauquoit Creek was cause for concern Wednesday for neighbors in the Village of Whitesboro. It's an area prone to flooding and once again, residents were looking at another potential disaster. Cara Thomas has more.

ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Flood concerns are over for people living along Sauquoit Creek. An ice jam formed near Whitesboro Wednesday, preventing any water from flowing through.

With a a lot of rain in the forecast, emergency officials feared it could mean another flood for the village.

But Wednesday night, the ice jam broke lose and crews were able to get rid of the debris.

Back in the fall of 2011, Whitesboro experienced severe flooding where fire departments had to rescue people from their homes. As a result, houses and businesses were damaged and people were without power for days.

But emergency crews say they learned their lesson last time and were ready for whatever Mother Nature brought their way.

Yorkville Fire Chief Joe Morosco said, "We have all sorts of pumps that we pump out cellars, get people to safety, make sure furnace, ags and electric to homes are turned off so we don't have an explosion problem."

Officials say they'll continue to monitor the creek with the changing weather, but don't expect to have any problems.
