SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Students at Parkview Junior Academy are showing the love this Martin Luther King Day.

Instead of staying home on their day off, a group of eighth and ninth grade students worked to create Valentine’s Day cards for those who need it most this time of year. They plan to create nearly 2,000 cards, one for every senior citizen living in Onondaga County nursing homes.

"We want to show the love of God, but we also want to let them know that they're not alone that people do care about them," said eighth grader Mackenzie Pitcher.

"I think it's worth it, like when we're going to hand these out and we see people's faces and see that they really enjoy these and it's not, we enjoy doing it," ninth grader Rufaro Mutanga said.

Teachers say this activity teaches the students teamwork, while also doing something nice for others. The students will be traveling to each of the nursing homes at the beginning of February to deliver the cards.
