HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Fire destroyed a home in Herkimer County.

Crews were called to Dugan Road in Litchfield around 6:30 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found the house fully engulfed in flames.

It took firefighters from eight departments about an hour to get the fire under control.

Fortunately, the family who lived in the home was able to get out safely.

"The son woke up, smelled smoke. They alerted the rest of the family members and they exited the house, basically with just the clothes that they had on," said Herkimer County Deputy Fire Coordinator Raymond Jones.

No one was hurt in the fire. Investigators are now looking into the cause.
