SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Despite the governor's plans not to address hydrofracking in his State of the State, a group of concerned citizens against the natural gas drilling process wants to make their message clear.
About 80 people left from Syracuse this morning to protest peacefully at the state Capitol.
The group is just one of many that plan to protest today. They say their goal is to protect New York's clean water resources, air quality, and property values.
"We're just going to be there to deliver a peaceful message. A positive message that we want the governor to ban fracking and really live up to his comments on climate change that he just recently made. He said that we need to avoid things like Hurricane Sandy and the best way to do that is move away from fossil fuels," said Ursula Rozum, Syracuse Peace Council.
Late last year, the DEC proposed new, revised hydrofracking regulations. The public comment period on those regulations is open for a few more days.
