ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Nearly 30 guardsmen have returned to Central New York.

Family and friends gathered at the New York State Armory on Thompson Road Tuesday to welcome them home. Soldiers spent nine months in Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and have been away from their families for more than a year.

Many were overwhelmed by the support.

"I've just been missing them a lot, so I was very happy to see them, you know, it brought a tear to my eyes," said Captain Matthew Scheuer.

The Syracuse group was part of 200 soldiers from the 427th Brigade Support Battalion that were welcomed home Tuesday across the state. That battalion took part in logistic, security and administrative missions overseas.
