GENESEE COUNTY, N.Y. -- A settlement has reached in the death of the man who fell out of a roller coaster at Darien Lake in 2011. Lawyers for the amusement park say a settlement was reached with the family of James Hackemer in November. It was approved by a Chief U.S. District Judge in federal court last week.
Hackemer lost both of his legs in a road side bomb explosion while serving in Iraq. He was killed when he fell out of a car on the Ride of Steel roller coaster.
The exact amount of the settlement has not been released. Lawyers say Hackemer's two daughters will be the primary beneficiaries.
