Hydrofracking protesters to travel to Albany

By: Web Staff

NEW YORK -- Hydrofracking opponents are getting ready to make their voices heard at the capital. An anti-fracking group, Toxics Targeting, is organizing bus trips to Albany for the State of the State address.

Buses will travel from Syracuse, Binghamton, Rochester, Buffalo, and Ithaca on Wednesday morning.

The organization says 104 government officials, including 22 mayors and town supervisors, have signed a petition asking for a public hearing on the Department of Health's review of hydrofracking.

Supporters of hydrofracking say it could bring new jobs and money to a cash strapped region. Opponents counter that chemicals used in natural gas drilling could damage nearby rivers, streams and the water supply.
