CANTON, N.Y -- Trains in the North Country will start traveling 15 miles an hour faster starting next month.

CSX Transportation, based in Jacksonville, Florida, has announced the freight trains running on the line from Antwerp to Potsdam will be the ones increasing their speed from 25 miles per hour to 40 starting on January 7th.

The 40 mile section of the line being affected includes 37 grade level road crossings and will improve the waiting time for motorists at intersections.

The increased speed limit is consistent with Federal Railroad Administration standards.
