SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The longtime media director for Syracuse University Athletics is reportedly under investigation.
A University spokesman tells YNN that Roger Springfield is no longer employed by SU.
The Post-Standard is reporting that Springfield is being investigated by Syracuse Police and the District Attorney’s office. The nature of the probe is unknown. The DA’s office gave us a “no comment.”
The paper says defense attorney Jim McGraw is representing Springfield and that McGraw believes the allegations being probed will not support criminal charges.
When contacted by YNN, McGraw declined comment.
We asked Syracuse Police if they are investigating Springfield and they issued a statement that said, “The Syracuse Police Department is conducting an investigation that was initiated by a complaint made by Syracuse University. We are not going to disclose the nature of the complaint or name anyone involved in the investigation at this time. This matter is not related to any prior or recent cases involving members of the Athletics Department. More information will be made available as the investigation progresses.”
Springfield was with SU Athletics since 2003, overseeing multi-media services, video production and video rights licensing. He assisted the production team for the feature film “The Express,” about SU’s Heisman Trophy winner Ernie Davis.
Prior to his position with SU, Springfield was the longtime sports director at Syracuse TV station WSTM.
There was no answer this afternoon at Springfield’s Fayetteville home or at his home phone number.
