SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse firefighters are trying to figure out what sparked a fire in a vacant building Tuesday morning. It started inside this East Division Street home just after 10 a.m.
No one was injured, but fire did spread to a vacant carriage house behind the building, and another vacant home next to it.
Crews had the fire out within 20 minutes, but fighting it was a challenge because there had been another fire there within the past year.
"When we have a previous fire scenes, that building's been opened up where we look for extension, members have been charged, charred and damaged previously. Walls have been torn down, ceilings have been opened up. So, that allows any fire to spread more quickly through the building," said Syracuse Deputy Fire Chief Steve Cavuto.
Again, the home was vacant, but witnesses say they saw someone running from the home. The cause is under investigation.
