JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. -- It's been a tradition in Johnson City for nearly 30 years and it made its way down Main Street once again Thursday evening.

The 28th annual Holiday Parade featured nearly 50 groups marching through downtown JC. Bands, floats and trucks decked out in lights were all features of the yearly promenade.

Hundreds of people lined Main Street to take in the sights and grab some candy tossed by revelers.

The parade is always held the Thursday after Thanksgiving and officially ushers in the holiday season.

"The last three years, it's kind of the kick off to our lights at the carousel down at CFJ Park that starts this weekend, tomorrow night, Friday and Saturday for the next three weekends. It just brings the people out, Christmas spirit, get everybody in the mood for Christmas," said Johnson City Mayor Greg Deemie.

Lights on the Carousel begins at 5 p.m. Friday. Residents can catch a ride on the merry-go-round and visit with Santa.
