SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Salvation Army was helping to ring in the holiday spirit Friday. The annual bell sale kicked off the giving season at this year's Clinton Square holiday tree lighting.
The public could give a dollar donation or more to the cause for an iconic Salvation Army bell.
"Well we have about 30 to 40 volunteers here. So we have kettles on every corner. And we hope to sell a couple thousand bells here tonight," said Greg Meitus, Salvation Army Public Relations and Marketing Manager.
Over the last five years, more than 14,000 families and 35,000 children have benefitted from the Salvation Army during the holiday season.
