Man charged for illegally possessing weapon

STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. -- Steuben County investigators say a man who accidentally shot himself after a hunting trip had the gun illegally. It happened earlier this week on Round Lake Road in the Town of Bath.

The sheriff's office says Robert Connis, 30, of Savona, and five others had just finished up a hunting trip when his shotgun fell from the truck it was leaning against and fired a shot into his foot. They say further investigation revealed that Connis was a convicted felon and it was illegal for him to have a rifle or shotgun for any reason.

Connis has since been charged with one count of criminal possession of a weapon.
