SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse Police are doing more than just patrolling the streets to serve the community this holiday season. Thursday, they served a Thanksgiving dinner to seniors at the Salvation Army's Senior Center.

More than 200 turkey dinners were prepared for the event. The Salvation Army says it's an important part to the seniors’ holiday.

"This is Thanksgiving. It really is a means by which to attach memories, resurrect memories and when the Syracuse Police Department comes, it's like children, your sons, your daughters coming to serve again," said George Polarek, CEO for the CNY Salvation Army.

The Senior Center offers a nutritional breakfast and lunch for the elderly in Syracuse every weekday.
