A statewide business group is warning the state Thruway Authority may try to approve a toll increase for truckers as early as today during a special meeting. YNN's Kate McGowan caught up with those who will be impacted by the possible increase.

Many from that group are disappointed in the possible meeting, and some state leaders say that any action taken while officials are focused on relief efforts in the wake of Sandy, would be disgraceful.

The Thruway Authority, however, feels that any vehicle with three axles or more should bear the cost for maintaining the miles and miles of Thruway.

"When a large tractor trailer does ten thousand times the damage as an individual passenger car, we feel they should be paying the fair amount of toll revenue in order to continue to invest in our system," said Tom Madison, NYS Thruway Authority.

But those directly impacted say this won't be easy on them.

"I avoid the toll way as much as I can anyway just to help the company out because the more they make the more they can pay me but yea I’ll definitely be staying away from them more," said Joseph Blair, a truck driver.

"We have to avoid the GW Bridge anyway so we are probably going to have to avoid the 90 at all accounts too," said Joshua Kernes, also a truck driver.

The Thruway Authority estimates the hike could bring in as much as $60 million a year.
