Remains of Korean War veteran coming home today

SENECA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The remains of a local Korean War veteran will return home today, 62 years after he died in battle.

The body of Seneca Falls native, Corporal Elmer C. Kidd, was found in November of 1950, but was unidentified. Four years later, Kidd was declared killed in action.

His remains were included in more than 200 boxes that North Korea turned over to the US back in 1993. DNA testing recently made it possible to identify Kidd.

Kidd's remains will arrive just after 11 a.m. at Hancock International Airport. There will be a plane-side ceremony followed by a procession from the airport to the funeral home in Seneca Falls.

Kidd's funeral will be at the Sanderson Moore Funeral Home in Seneca Falls on Friday at 11 a.m. It will be followed by a burial at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
