BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- About 400 people came out to Ostiningo Park in Binghamton on Sunday to take part in the 13th annual Walk to End Alzheimer's.
The walk raises money for the Alzheimer's Association, which is one of the largest private non-profit funders of research for the disease. Booths were also set up to provide information, and off assistance to individuals and people living with the disease. According to organizers, the walk in Binghamton grows each year, and that's important because the prevalence of the disease continues to escalate.
"We know that over age 65, one in eight individuals will be at risk for Alzheimer's, that escalates to one in two over the age of 85. So, as we are living longer, we are at a greater risk for diseases like Alzheimer's disease," said Cathy James, Alzheimer's Association CNY Chapter.
Organizers hope to raise $63,000 from the walk.
