ITHACA, N.Y. -- The founder of Seneca Foods Corporation has made a sizable donation to Cornell University to help the school stay competitive in the Ivy League.

Arthur Wolcott, his wife, Audrey, and the Seneca Foods Foundation donated $20 million to support Cornell's Award Match Initiative.

The initiative is one of the recent changes Cornell has made to its financial aid programs. It allows the school to match need-based financial aid offers from any of the seven peer schools in the Ivy League.

School officials say the gift should also make an impact on the athletic program, as it will help Cornell attract more recruits.
