ITHACA, N.Y. -- When Ithaca native and National Hockey League Champion Dustin Brown brought the Stanley Cup to his hometown last weekend, it was a great chance for people to see sports' most famous trophy.
But it was also a chance for people to help the Semper Fi Fund that helps wounded American Marines and servicemen.
In January, the cousin of Brown's wife was injured in Afghanistan. He died 10 weeks later.
At the Ithaca event last Saturday, Brown asked fans to donate $5 for photos with the cup and also for autographed pictures. There were also a few raffles.
In all, the event raised more than $15,000 for the fund.
Brown says he wants to thank the fans and the entire city for their help.
