TRUXTON, N.Y. -- Friends and family are mourning the death of a Cortland County woman. State Police found Janet Pottorff, 53, dead in her Truxton home on Friday.

Pottorff was a licensed practical nurse at Cortland Regional Medical Center for 18 years. Janet's husband, Keith Pottorff, 44, was taken into custody after an investigation with second degree murder. Suspicions arose earlier in the week when Janet's co-workers said her husband called out sick for her on Wednesday, and then again on Thursday, which was her scheduled day off.

Those same staff members are shocked and saddened at the loss of a woman who they say, was the perfect nurse.

"She was kindhearted. She took care of children, sure, but also as I said, patients of all ages. She had a wonderful sense of humor. She had a softness to her. She really cared deeply for others and it really came out in her interactions with all of her patients," said Tom Quinn, Cortland Regional Medical Center PR Director.

State Police are still investigating any potential motive. They are asking anyone who may know more about the homicide to contact them at (607) 756-5604.
