BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. – There is some good news for youth-related programs in Broome County. The area is receiving more than a $100,000 in grant money.

The announcement came Tuesday at Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network, which will receive more than $10,000 in funding.

In all, $118,000 will be distributed to several different youth programs.

County Executive Debbie Preston says the grant money is vital because children who are mentored have a better chance of achieving a higher education and a lower risk of developing substance abuse.

“These are difficult times and many families rely on organizations like Mothers and Babies to provide resources as our young people grow into the leaders of tomorrow,” said Broome County Executive Debbie Preston.

The grants were obtained through the Broome County Youth Bureau and were funded by New York State.
