BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The puck will continue to drop in Binghamton for at least five more years.

Thursday, the Broome County Legislature approved a lease agreement that will keep the Binghamton Senators on the ice in the Veterans' Memorial Arena through the 2016-2017 season.

A unanimous vote approved a five-year extension between the County and BC Senators, Incorporated, the B-Sens' ownership group.

The Senators have played at the Arena since they're inaugural season in 2002.

The new lease agreement also means the team will continue to be affiliated with the NHL's Ottawa Senators for another three seasons.

"We've not signed the affiliation agreement yet, but we've signed the letter of intent which basically has been agreed to and it was contingent on what happened here today, so it will be signed here in the very near future," said Executive of VP Operations Tom Mitchell.

The B-Sens will have 38 games at the Arena during the 2012-2013 season, which starts in October.
