UTICA, N.Y. -- It's a major milestone in the legal battle regarding Utica's municipal ambulance service.

The State Senate passed a bill Wednesday that would eliminate the review process services have to go through two years after they're established. Instead, they'd just have to show they meet state rules and regulations.

The legislation does not affect services across the state, just those in Utica and Glens Falls.

If signed into law, the bill would end five years of litigation between Utica and various agencies.

A version of the bill passed in the Assembly earlier this month.

Fire officials say they'll continue to advocate for Governor Cuomo to sign the legislation into law.
