Hess Express stores help the MDA

A gas and convenience store chain is taking steps to help the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Hess Express stores across the region are conducting the "Make a Muscle, Make a Difference" campaign through July 4th. Our Brad Vivacqua has the details of the campaign.

NEW YORK -- Hess Express store officials say, so far, it's going very well. At the store in Fayetteville, a number of people have purchased $1 decals all in an effort to help the MDA's comprehensive services program.

From Albany to Rochester and across the Southern Tier, you can participate in this campaign at any Hess Express store. Simply fill out a $1 decal with your name and make a donation. All contributions will help support research efforts to help find a cure for neuromuscular diseases. The funds will also help send kids with these diseases to a one week camp later this summer.

17-year old Skyler Canute was born with a neuromuscular disease and has been confined to a wheelchair since he was five. He spoke to us about how much these donations help.

“It shows the generosity and support that the community is willing to give, especially in some of these hard economical times. They’re still willing to step up to the plate and give to a great cause. And, I know it’s not the only one they give to so it makes it even better that they give so much to this one,” said Skyler Canute, MDA Ambassador.

This campaign started at the end of May and so far Hess Express has raised about $40,000 for the MDA. Some of the funds will also go to help pay for medical equipment, clinics, and support groups.

You can make a donation at any store until July 4th.
