ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Motorcycles, classic cars and emergency vehicles parade through Onondaga County to keep the Air One helicopter flying and saving lives.
The Air One Foundation Poker Run Saturday saw participants ride from the town of Onondaga to the town of Pompey, touring local fire departments along the way. Air One makes approximately 50 EMT transports a year, and that doesn't include the additional police or fire trips. Supporters say the helicopter, which is one of only a few in the area, is a critical resource to emergency personnel and victims.
"There are very few helicopters in the area that can do all the things that Air 1 can do. The other helicopters in the agency either are ambulance service, primarily police service. But very few blend all three. In fact, nobody blends all three," said Waves Associate Medical Director Naveen Seth.
All proceeds from the ride and raffles at the event will go to the foundation efforts for Air One.
