SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A local non-profit is working to raise money to honor World War Two veterans. Honor Flight Syracuse held a chicken barbecue fundraiser at the Villas of Summerfield Saturday.
The group is raising the money to fly veterans to the World War Two memorial in Washington D.C., free of charge. They're hoping to make their first flight in late September or early October.
The group's president says he got the inspiration after taking the trip with his father through Rochester's program. "It was so moving to me, to see the reaction of these veterans has been incredible. And I got thinking, gee, why couldn't we do something like that here in Syracuse. We've got a great city, we've got a great community," said Honor Flight Syracuse President Randy Flath.
