MONROE COUNTY, N.Y. -- A retired police officer is dead following an accident in Monroe County. It happened just before 10 a.m. Saturday in the town of Greece.

Investigators say an SUV hit a pedestrian coming off of an on-ramp, it lost control, hitting a guardrail and rolling over several times.

Later in the day, it was confirmed that the pedestrian was retired Gates Police officer Sung Chung, also known as Sonny Chung.

He is the same officer who made a remarkable recovery after a major car crash back in September of 2002 caused a serious brain injury, making unable to return to the police force.

The accident is now under investigation. Authorities don’t believe the 23-year-old driver was impaired in any way before the crash.
