STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Elmira man who was convicted of fatally stabbing a Corning man last June now faces a new charge.

Marland Brooks was indicted earlier this week after authorities said he assaulted a Steuben County prison officer on January 4th.

Four months ago, Brooks was found guilty of killing and robbing Clark Van Etten during a dispute over drugs. He was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

He is now charged with 2nd degree assault. According to the indictment, Brooks injured the officer with the intent to prevent him from carrying out his duties.
