ARGYLE, N.Y. -- A Cornell University student from the Glens Falls area died from meningitis after returning home for the summer.
Krista Depew, 19, of Argyle just finished her freshman year at Cornell. According to her mother, she came home sick, but her doctor thought she had the flu.
Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord. It spreads though the throat and respiratory secretions, not through casual contact.
According to a spokeswoman for Cornell, students were made aware of the death and would be informed if any further concerns arise.
