Utica man arrested at Thruway rest stop
UTICA, N.Y. -- A Utica man faces numerous charges after police say he stole a bottle of alcohol, drank it on the Thruway, then attacked someone with a hammer.
State Police say Denis Alibegic, 22, stole a bottle of vodka from a liquor store in Utica, then got on the Thruway and drove west toward Syracuse. He stopped at the Warners service area to get gas around 4 a.m. and police say that's when he attacked a gas attendant with a hammer. The attendant was injured, but managed to grab the weapon and call police.
Alibegic has been charged with DWI, robbery, assault and criminal possession of a weapon and could face additional charges for the burglary in Utica.
