TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. -- It's time to kick off the summer and with the recent warm weather, the crowds are heading to cool off and get back to nature at New York's state parks.

Visitors were beginning to trickle in and hit the trails by Friday afternoon at Robert H. Treman State Park in Ithaca. Good weather and the long weekend are expected to lure many more. Some even coming from out of the state to see what the area has to offer.

"The natural beauty of upstate New York and the Southern Tier is something that I always come back to. And we all live in D.C. right now, so this is a chance is a chance for us to get up and get out of the city," Ian McMurty said.

If you're planning an outdoor trip this weekend, be sure to call ahead or check the park's website before you head out to see if swimming and camping are open yet.
