NEW YORK STATE -- A bill aimed at diverting more funding into bridge and road repairs passes through the New York State Senate.

The so-called Bridge Reform Act, sponsored by State Senator Tom Libous, will make sure that money from the Dedicated Highway and Bridge Trust fund actually goes toward the intended cause.

In recent years, more than three quarters of the fund money has been spent on unrelated projects, including funding the DMV and snow plowing. Senator Libous says he wants the money to go back into repair projects, noting the thousands of bridges across the state that are either obsolete or have some kind of limitation.

The bill is now headed to the Assembly for another vote.
