CORTLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Cortland County family is pushing forward trying to raise money for their sick infant, as police continue to look for a woman who tried to use the little girl's illness to make a profit.
The Spafford Fire House hosted a benefit for Lilith Towers Sunday, the baby girl was born with hyperplasic left heart syndrome and has to go through three open heart surgeries to repair and rebuild the left side of her heart.
The family had been passing out fliers to let the public know about their fundraiser this past week but the Sheriff's office caught wind that a woman in her 20s had been going to area businesses, stating that Lilith had died, in an attempt to solicit additional money and donations.
They are now trying to track that woman down, while the family tries to move on and raise money to help pay for the thousands of dollars in medical bills they've incurred.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Sheriff's office at (607) 753-3311.
