Even with many details yet to be uncovered, the investigation into a fatal house fire in the town of Triangle has revealed a frightening, and sad story. As our Elyse Mickalonis tells us, neighbors are still in shock over what happened Saturday night, and the tragic outcome.

BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- This is what’s left of what used to be a home at 54 Old Catskill Turnpike after a house fire last night. John Danella was driving by when he saw the blaze.

John Danella, Clark Mills Resident said, “When I had seen a huge plume of smoke coming up from probably two miles away I kind sped to the location I parked the car right in front of the driveway just the fire was immense I’ve never seen a fire burn so hot so fast adrenaline just sent me up I was trying to help somebody, if there were people there."

Danella was warned not to get near home, because it was too dangerous but he did pull out his phone and capture these images. Sunday the Broome County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that they found two bodies in the debris. A man and child are still missing, but authorities have not yet identified them as the victims.

Investigators believe the series of events started with a domestic dispute, and that the man living at the home set the fire intentionally.

David Harder, Broome County Sheriff said, “The husband assaulted the wife, kind of tied her up, cut her legs. She was able to get away, he made a comment that he would kill himself and their 3-year-old child, by burning the house down with them in it."

The woman was able to escape and was taken to Wilson Hospital, there's no word yet on her current condition.

Neighbors said they’re shocked and saddened by what happened off of Route 206.

Silas Secoolish, a Triangle resident said, “It’s a sad thing about the little Girl, she Just played outside the other day. it's kinda rough on the kids to hear something like this."
