CORNING, N.Y. -- Take Your Child to Work Day came a few weeks late for Corning Incorporated, but more than 450 kids stopped by the company's Sullivan Park campus Friday to spend the day with their parents.
Children of all ages spent the day taking tours of the facility, working in the labs and doing science-related activities. One group of kids spent the morning solving crimes using fingerprints and chemistry.
Parents and students say this is a great way to open the kids' eyes to different kinds of careers.
"I really feel strongly about women in science and technology careers. And as we know, it's predominantly male, so I think it's great, especially for the young girls here," said parent Wendy Baker.
"I like science and it's kind of like an art project when we get to build these things," third grader Mikaila Hughes said.
Corning, Inc. holds special activities for Take Your Child to Work Day every year.
