UTICA, N.Y. -- One year ago, the old Rail Express Agency wing of Union Station was rundown, and with good reason: it had been out of use since the 1960s.
Thursday, county leaders unveiled the newly renovated wing. Thanks to a $312,000 capital project, it's now equipped with electricity, new windows, and stairs.
The plan is to use it as part of the county's Public Market and for other community activities.
Market vendors say they're excited about the new addition to the event.
"It will give us an opportunity to come in on rainy days, which I am an annual member this season, so I'm interested in using it both inside and outside when weather permits. And I'm excited for the winter and fall markets when it's permanently inside," said Christopher Giruzzi, owner of one of the market's vendors, Sammy and Annie Foods.
The public market will be open the next two Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. It will officially open for the season on June 16th.
