UTICA, N.Y. -- The man accused of leaving eight dogs to starve while he was in jail is heading to trial.
Utica City Court officials say the trial of Umar Aziz will begin July 18.
Aziz was arrested last month when police found three dead pit bulls and five that were severely emaciated in his Whitesboro Street apartment. Three more dogs died in the days that followed. Aziz was already in custody on unrelated charges when the discovery was made. He faces multiple counts of animal cruelty.
