STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. -- Thousands of Southern Tier residents are coming out to vote on school budgets.

Voting polls in the Corning-Painted Post district were pretty active Tuesday afternoon. The C-PP budget is an $87 million budget that calls for 111 job cuts. There are also three open Board of Education positions.

Voters expressed mixed opinions about this year’s budget.

"I think everybody has their likes and dislikes, but I think they do the best they can. Can't ask for any more," said Painted Post resident John Mayes.

"School buses go up through there a little after seven, pick children up. And then they go up there a little after eight, pick children up. When I went to school, we all went on the same bus. And that would save one awful lot of money right there," said Painted Post resident Alton O’Brian.

Polls are open until 8 p.m. in Corning and there are only eight polling locations open this year in Corning, down from 16 in the past.
