Rabid fox shot after attacking people
TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Tompkins County Health Department is warning people living near Buttermilk Falls State Park in Ithaca of possible exposure to rabies.
Officials say a red fox from the park was shot after attacking several people and biting at least one person. Lab results found that the animal was rabid. It is also believed that the fox attacked a dog at a near-by residence.
The health department is urging anyone who may have had contact with a fox last week or has seen their pets make contact, to immediately call them at (607) 274-6688.
A free rabies clinic is also being held Wednesday at the Town of Ithaca Highway Garage. You can get more information on that by calling the same number.
