SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Democrats have their candidate for this fall's race for Onondaga County Clerk. The Republican who has held the job for 16 years, Ann Ciarpelli, will not be seeking re-election this year.

Real estate broker Gary Morris, 45, says he is in the race and has the backing of local Democratic committee members. Traditionally, voters have given countywide offices to Republicans, but Morris says that won't be the story in 2012.

“This county is changing. The demographics of this county have changed. And I think it's more than just being on a line. It's about what that candidate has to offer to the constituents in that county or village or city that they're running for,” said Gary Morris, Onondaga County Clerk candidate.

Among Morris' plans is a top to bottom audit of the clerk's office to make sure the office is efficient and offering the services people need.
