WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- An apartment complex was destroyed by a fire in the city of Watertown. It started just after 3 a.m. at 239 High Street.
Fire officials said when they arrived, the front and upper level of the building was fully engulfed with flames. They said that four apartment units were occupied, but they believe everyone got out safely.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but police believe it may have been intentionally set.
"The police department's working on a number of leads and a gas can would be something that would be collected in any course in any investigation, so we don't know if it’s directly related to this fire or not, we're still trying to piece everything together," said Chief Dale Herman, Watertown Fire Department.
The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents. The street will remain closed until at least noon while crews continue to assess the damage.
