Mother's Day Garden Tour at Sycamore Hill Gardens

People all over the country celebrated their mothers Sunday and in Onondaga County it was no different. As YNN's Erin Clarke tells us, folks in Marcellus chose to spend the holiday basking in the beautiful springtime weather.

MARCELLUS, N.Y. -- Cleaning dishes and folding laundry are typical chores we see moms do.
So on Mother's Day we pay them back. To do that a couple thousand people took their special ladies to Sycamore Hill Gardens for their annual Garden Tour.

"This is a good easy way to get everyone together in one place. The weather is gorgeous and there's so much to see here," said Mike Dardardis.

Like the huge coy in ponds around the gardens, beautiful flowers to pick and a serene environment to enjoy. Much more relaxing than going out to, say, a restaurant for the holiday.

"You could bring your mother here for an admission price in advance of five dollars a person or ten dollars at the gate, kids eight and under free, bring your own picnic, spend the entire day and entertain your whole family for pennies," said Sycamore Hill Gardens Founder, Karen Hanford.

The event also raises money for a good cause. Proceeds from the Garden Tour go toward children's programs at the Baltimore Woods Nature Center.

"We believe that all children benefit from spending time outside in the natural world and all of our children deserve to have access to this," said Baltimore Woods Nature Center Executive Director, Patty Weisse.

Organizers say, the perfect event and day to raise money for programs like Nature in the City since so many kids enjoyed nature with their moms.
